Backyard Guests

Since moving to our new home a year and a half, we have had the pleasure of watching God's beautiful wildlife. We have had our fair share of snakes (not well liked), squirrels (grey, brown and white), cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays, deer (both young and old), pigeons, beavers and today we had the pleasure of seeing wild turkey.

Not just one turkey, but five of them searching for food in our backyard. It was exciting to see our lastests "backyard guests." I had to share a couple of pictures of our many blessings from God.

What beauty He creates!

Treasures Galore!

My sister, Sheila, is always thinking of me. She is always so thoughtful and caring. Just recently, she gave my a creative care package. It was such a surprise! Her treasures spare my creativity. I can't wait to find creative time to use my wonderful treasures!

Imagine...

As I sit here looking at our Christmas tree complete with ornaments, beautifully wrapped Christmas and listening to my favorite Christmas song, Mary Did You Know, listening to my children joyfully playing with their cousins, I am reminded of the first Christmas gift...Jesus!

Can you imagine being there when the angel told Mary she was going to have a baby and she was not married yet? Can you imagine the first time Mary felt Jesus move inside her? Can you imagine Mary and Joseph's love for this little baby? Can you imagine that one day this little boy would one day save us?

Take a moment from this hetic time of year, sit down in front of your Christmas tree and imagine all the wonder that is season brings. Merry Christmas!

Humor...the Best Medicine

Sometimes my kids can say the cutest things.

As I was getting Grant dressed for school this morning. He tells me he wants to be a girl. I was surprised by his comment, so I asked him why he wanted to be a girl. He stood there a moment and with his determine voice, he replied "the girls get to wear pj to school and the boys can't." "That is just not far", he continued. Well, he is true. It is the "in-style" when it gets cold outside for the girls at school to wear bright, wild color pj bottoms under their navy/kawki uniform skirts. It was so hard not to laugh, because to him this was a big deal. However to me, it was medicine I needed...a good laugh (inside).

Who is 42?

Yes, it is true! I turned 42 on Sunday. You know I don't feel that old. I still remember my high school days like it was yesterday. My college years seem so fresh in mind. I can still picture Darren and I on our wedding day. The birth of our kids are so clear and vivid...it is hard to believe that I am 42. When I was a teenager, 42 was considered old. It is amazing as the years go by the age of "old" continues to grow. Now my idea of "old" is 100!

These 42 years have been amazing...filled with love, laughter, joy, family and friends. I can only imagine what the next 42 years will bring!

Let the games begin!

Yesterday, we spent all afternoon at Shelby's basketball games. A year can make a big difference in the girls ability to run plays and truly understand zone coverage. It was exciting to see the girls at this level. The girls on our team have been class mates since Kindergarten. It is amazing to watch them, as I have watched them grow up before my eyes. They are truly remarkable girls!

Congratulations Saints for playing like champions and for winning two out of the three games!

**Note to me...remember the camera next time.**

Thankful Heart

On this Thanksgiving Eve, I have been reflecting on the many blessings that God has given me. With God all things are possible and with Him, I have many things to be thankful for. Here are just a few:

My loving husband of 16 years
My three beautiful and healthy children
My extended family - sisters, brother-in-laws, neices and nephews, mothers, dads and grandmothers
My friends
My health and the health of my family and friends
My country...for the men and women that protect our country so that we can live in the land of the free!
For love, laughter and life!

God has blessed my life abundantly! May I always have a thankful heart!

Finished Product

For over a year, I have lived in a "bland" house of egg shell white in most of the rooms However, I decided to get out the paint brushes and add some warm colors to my house.

My kitchen is done in wild honey and my living room is done in cookie crumb. I am so pleased with the results. See what you think.

Happy 80th Birthday, Mickey!

Yes, it is true! Mickey Mouse turned 80 years old. He looks so young...how can it be?

I am a true Mickey fan. He brings so many wonderful memories for our family: from the days of the Mickey Mouse club, to the Disney Channel shows so long ago, to the wonderful Disney vacations we have taken our kids on, to our Mickey welcome rock and statue in our front garden.

So here's to you Mickey on your very special day. May it be a special as you are to our family!

What I've been up too!

This past week, I have been feverishly painting the inside of my house. Between the kids school auction, working part time, attending a music performance and church, I am done with my living room and almost done with my kitchen. I love the new colors: cookie crumb for the living room and wild honey for the kitchen. Don't those colors sound yummy! As soon as I am done, I will post pictures.

However, tonight I am attending a Silver Bella pre-party with my sister Sheila. I am taking the night off and enjoying some time with creative people. I can't wait! Thank you for thinking of me. I only wish I could be a little mouse to stow away in Sheila's luggage!

Election Day 2008

I left the house at 6 am to go about a mile from my home to vote. After spending 25 minutes in the car, I arrived at the polling area. I waited in a line that wrapped around half of the big building. After waiting for 45 minutes, I finally had my ballot in hand. I cast my ballot and then proceeded to find my car in the packed parking lot and head home. I made it home by 7:20 am, just in time to take the kids to school.

Seeing people voting gave me such a sense of patriotism. We are so lucky to live in this country where we have elections! May God Bless the candidates that win this election!

Surprise kids...HSM3

Yes, we are part of the craze...HSM3 (or for those that don't know High School Musical 3). Last night we surprised the kids by taking them to the premier of HSM3. They were so excited and to tell you the truth I was too.

Well, the director and cast out did themselves. This is truly a movie to go see, as it brings out the kid in you. Yes, I laughed, sang along and even cried. It brought great memories of those high school years long ago. It also reminds me that one day my kids will be graduating from high school (sooner than later with the way time flies). So if you can stand the lines, the excited kids and be willing to pay the cost to go to the movies, it is well worth it!

Treasures from my kiddos

Yesterday, we came home to a beautiful blanket of leaves in our front yard. I was commenting to the kids about God's beauty and they surprised me with my very own collection of leaves. So I decided to let them grace my front porch by our pumpkin so everyone entering our home could enjoy Gods beauty. The joy on Grant and Shannon's faces were priceless! I love these little treasured moments from my kiddos and hope that they never end!

A Special Time

Monday evening, I watched my two nephews Dustin and Andrew. It was such a wonderful time watching Dustin and Grant play football together. Grant looks up to his older cousin and so enjoys spending time with him. Dustin helped Grant read his school book, while my girls enjoyed holding Andrew. Needless to say, I didn't get much of a turn holding the newest member our big family but I got some cute pictures!

Our little Andrew gave us a scare a month ago; however he is doing well. Look at that hair! As Shelby says it best "Andrew is going to be a lady killer one day!" Can you tell she loves him?

Thanks boys for coming over and playing. Next time lets not wait so long!

Field Trip Mania

This past week, I attended field trips with Shelby and Grant. Shelby's field trip was to the Renaissance Festival, which ended up rainy and cold. Grant's was to a Diary Farm, which also was cold and damp. However the weather didn't ruin the fun!

Shelby was able to help in a magician show and watch a live josting. Grant was able to pet a 4 day old calf and milk a real cow. It is such a delight to see your kids having fun. Thank you Shelby and Grant for wanting me to be with you!

Where has all the time gone!

It has been a little over a month since I posted last. Where has the time gone? Well, at the end of September we went on a magical Disney vacation with family...16 to be exact! Dreams do come true and many magical memories were made that will last a life time.

Upon returning, my life went in "upper sonic speed". I had to help kids catch up on homework and I had to catch up on my own paper work, plus return back to my part time job at school. So there you have it...sometimes life is to hetic; however I am back in "somewhat" control and look forward to sharing my thoughts once again!

Crisp, Cool Fall

The signs of fall are all around us...the turning and falling of leaves, the shorter days, the cooler nights and morning, pumpkins appearing on front porches. My favorite season is here. This weekend marked the yearly "preparing for fall". We took in the deck furniture, turned on the furnace and put on our flannel sheets and blankets.

Happy Birthday and Welcome Back Home

Today we went to celebrate our neice's, Heavyn, 3rd birthday. All the Disney Princesses were there to celebrate (as well as family). She looked so adorable in her red and white frilly dress complete with a Tinker Bell necklace and tiara. These are the moments to remember, for not long she will be out the door having her own family. XOXO!

Also, our nephew Andrew has finally come back home after a long stay at Children's Mercy Hospital. He is better; however not "out of the woods". Only time will tell if the infection will stunt the growth of his arm. God does work miracles and Andrew is our! Welcome back home little man! We love you!

Rekindling Friendships

Today, I had friends from Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Company (were I worked for 10 years before becoming a full-time mom) over for lunch and to see our new home. These ladies have been my friends while at Faultless and over the past 7 1/2 years that I have been a full-time mom.

We shared a light lunch, laughter, stories about the past and about the future. God has blessed me with many amazing friends (not pictured is my dear twin sister who means the world to me).

Prayers Needed For Andrew

Our newest nephew, Andrew, was admitted to Children's Mercy Hospital, with an infection that is causing his shoulder bone to deteriorate. The doctors don't know much yet, as they are still trying to determine what type of infection and what is causing his bone to deteriorate. As I write this, Andrew is in surgery.

Dear Lord be with the surgeons and nurses as they care for Andrew. Give strength to Melissa and David as they wait for the results. Wrap your loving arms around our little Andrew to give him comfort and love that only you can give.

Not One but Two Student Council Girls

A few weeks ago, Shelby made the decision to run for Student Council Vice President (which was not surprising as she has been on STUCO for a couple years...she is our more outgoing, social girl). The day after Shelby said she wanted to run, Shannon decided that she want to run for her class representitive. I was a little apprehensive, since Shannon has been our shy, reserved girl. Shannon and I worked on her speech and she practiced each night. I was so excited that she was gaining more confidence, but worried that if she did not get elected she would be "crushed".

Today was elections at school for Student Council. Shelby won Vice President and Shannon (our shy girl) won her 3rd grade Class Representitive. Way to go girls! I am so proud of you!

Creating Time

This weekend, I spent Friday night with my twin sister, Sheila, creating. We had so much fun creating for our Sweet and Sinister SWAP, that I didn't get home until 1:30 am! I will be showing you some of my creations after I mail them to my SWAP partner (as I want it to be a surprise).

All of the items turned out so cute that we made us one as well! Thanks Sheila for a wonderful evening making our "ghoulish" treats and for encouraging me to go "outside of the box" and create! Let's have another night of creating real soon!

The Woes of a Working Mother

I work very part time; however yesterday Grant came into the cafe. He had been crying and complaining of a tummy ache. I settled him down and sent him back to class. The next lunch period, Shannon came in crying. I went to talk to her and she was complaining that she was not feeling good. I felt her forhead and she was warm, so up to the nurse we went. The nurse confirmed she had a fever of 101 degrees. Great! I called Grandpa to see if he could pick her up. He said yes and I sighed a sigh of relief. By the time Grandpa picked up Shannon, I made the decision to send home Grant (just in case he was really sick).

What is the luck that my kids would get sick the day I was working at school? The woes of a working mom...even us part timers!

~note to mom - Shannon was sick; Grant was pretending!~

Working Mom

Well the kids are in school now and I have time on my hands. As most of you know, I am a "busy worker bee". I keep busy with kids activities, volunteering at school and church, Brownie leader and keeping up the yard and house work. This year I have decided to "ease" into that working mom roll.

The kids school had a full-time position working in the cafe and relieving teachers. I was not wanting a full-time job, yet. Since Grant is in Kindergarten, I wanted to have the flexibility of volunteering at parent centers every other week and going on field trips with all my kids. Another mother was also wanting this set up, so we are sharing this position at school. What a great opportunity for us full-time moms to help the school out and still have the opportunity to be involved with our kids. This position also allows me to subsitute in the classroom when needed.

I believe the dear Lord had a "hand" in this position. Good watches over his "flock" which included me! Thank you for answering my prayer!

Back to School

The school supplies have been purchased; the names have been put on the uniforms; the back packs have been packed; and we have met the teachers. I guess it is time to go to school!

When I left the work force to become a full-time mother, I could not image this day. It seemed like an eternity; however it was realized this past week. Yes, our baby boy is going to Kindergarten this year. Shannon will be in 3rd grade and Shelby in 7th grade.

It is a tradition at our house that I fix a back-to-school breakfast and a fun snack for after school. This year since Grant entered Kindergarten and started a day after the girls, I had to come up with two breakfasts and two afternoon snacks. The first day the girls received "ABC" pancakes, fresh sliced bananas and strawberries with blueberries and the snack after school was warm chocolate chip cookies. The day that Grant started school, I made "123" pancakes (since he loves adding numbers) and sliced fresh banana and strawberries with grapes. The afternoon snack with homemake chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches. We also celebrated with a picnic at the park after school on Tuesday...Daddy even joined us.

What a great start to a new school year!

Last Official Day of Summer Break

On Friday, August 14, we spent our last full day of summer break with cousins and friends. We woke up early to go horseback riding with Janna, Connor, Dustin and Lexi. Both of my girls trotted on Bud and Casey. They played move the bucket from one barrel to the next (like I did when I was a kid). I am so proud of my kids and their accomplishments on become more confident on the horses.

Later we met the Albertson's (Melissa, Ellie and Lucas) at the park to watch a magic show. Due to a newspaper miss print, we ended up at the park 2 hours early; however we had a wonderful time watching the kids play on the playground. It rained just a little so we could get great pictures of Shannon & Ellie "singing in the rain". Grant and Lucas played on the monkey bars. By the end of the night Grant & Lucas had them mastered. Shelby enjoyed reading her book until the magic show. Melissa also introdued my kids to Pop Rocks. I didn't even know they still made them; however it brought wonderful memories of my childhood. The kids enjoyed the magic show and after 2 hours of magic, the magician handled out glow sticks. What a great way to end our fabulous summer!

The wait has ended...

My DH and I finally decided that for Shelby's 12th birthday, we would give her a gift certificate to get her ears pierced. (Shelby has been requesting since the age of 8). We attempted to get them done a couple days after her birthday; however her fears gave in and she decided she didn't want them done.

Well after about 5 months, this Sunday she decided she had the courage to go through with it. While we were out running errands, she asked if we could stop by Claire's do have it done. I told her yes; however she was going to do it this time. Well, she won over her fears of the pain and got her ears pierced.

Now Shannon is wanting to get her ears done. We have 4 years of listening to her pleas to have her ears done. Why can't parenting be simple?

Prayers Answered

This weekend, we finally held our newest memeber of our family Andrew David. My girls were so in love with him, just holding and looking at him. Grant was more interested in playing the Wii with Dustin than in his new cousin. Just wait until Andrew is playing ball with you, Grant.

When I held Andrew, my thoughts were on how God makes all things wonderful. Andrew had 10 toes for running, 10 tiny fingers, 2 ears for hearing, 2 beatiful eyes to gaze into, 1 cute button nose and 1 MIRACLE. God is Good, VERY GOOD! Thank you for your prayers..as they were answered!

Completed Challenge!

In July, I challenged myself to scrapbook a layout every other day. Over the weekend, I count my layouts and I realized I completed my challenge! Yeah, me!

Here are a few of the layouts I created!

For the month of August, my challenge is to bring new life into items I already have. I will keep you posted.

Prayers Needed

On Monday morning, we found out that Andrew had fluid on his lungs and needed to be in NICU, which meant my sister was not able to hold and feed her baby. However the doctors felt it would only take a day; however we found out on Tuesday that Andrew is forgetting to breath while feeding. So Andrew will be in NICU for the rest of the week.

This past week my brother-in-law, Davon, was admitted into the hospital for a seizure. After four days of tests he is finally out; however he is needing prayers to help him with the long road of recovery.

God answers prayers and I know that He will lovingly take care of my family that is needing his strength, support and care.

Welcome Little One

We welcomed our newest addition to the family on Sunday night around 11 pm. Andrew David was welcomed into this world by my youngest sister and her new husband. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and had more hair on his head than his Daddy (Tee Hee).

All were present to meet him...Dustin (big brother), Lexi (big sister), Grams, PaPa, GiGi, MaMa, Uncle Chris and Aunt Lynn, Aunt Vicki, Aunt Sheila, Janna, David's mom (aka. new grandmother), David's Aunt, my daughter's Shelby and Shannon and myself. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw him and watched the nurse's bath him and check him over. These are moments when you know God is Good, oh so very GOOD!

Congratulations and welcome little one to the family!

Rest and Relaxation

Our Wild Wedded Women's Weekend was fabulous! It was filled with hours of crafting, giggling until our sides hurt, eating until we couldn't eat any more, exploring an antique mall, soaking up the sun and enjoying our "sisterly" bond.

It seems like we just got started and then it is time to get back to our "real" life. Thank you WWW for a wonderful time!

Wild Wedded Women's Weekend

In just a few short hours, I will be saying good-bye to my family for our yearly women's weekend. This is a time for crafting, laughing, crafting, staying up until wee hours of the night, crafting, eating, crafting, giggling, crafting. Do you get the hint? I am so excited about the opportunity to be crafting.

I'll keep you posted on the projects I worked on.

Treasured Moments for One Tired Mom

Over the past week, we have had 2 slumber parties, dinner with friends, a Royals game, sitting up for Vacation Bible School, swimming, horseback riding, mowing the lawn, the daily up keep of the house, exercise and keeping the kids from fighting. It is mid-summer and I am looking forward to a break from the hectic pace; however I don't have one in site until the end of the week. Thank heavens!

Today, I was able to sit and watch the kids play with their cousins in the pool. Shannon jumped off the diving board and swam to the side all by herself. Shelby mastered her surface dive and perfecting her strokes. Grant is jumping of the side of the pool without a life jacket, diving for rocks on the steps and jumping off the board with his life jacket. Just a few short weeks they were all saying "I can't"; however they can now. Yes, life as a full time mom can be very draining and sometimes you don't feel appreciated. However moments like these I will treasure!

No Air Conditioning?

You heard it right. Since we were experience mid temperatures in the low 80's, I didn't discover until after 5 pm on Thursday, July 3rd, that our air condition was not cooling

On Friday, we were given the bad news. Our air compressor was shot and we needed a new unit. $$$$ signs went through my mind.

Due to the holiday weekend, we had to wait until Monday for the next repair man to give us a quote on a new air conditioning unit. By Monday, the temperatures were rising and our house was a warm 88 degrees. So we headed to Grammy's until we met with the final service man on Wednesday.

On Wednesday afternoon, our prayers were answered. Our air compressor was fine; we only needed a new started. We are enjoying our "cooler" air!

Creativity!

I have been keeping up with my goal this month. These layouts aren't master pieces; however I have pictures on pages and I actually journaled on them. I am so proud of myself as I have been in a creative "dry spell" for months. I feels so good to create!

Disney World Here We Come!

Yes, it is official! Yesterday I received the tickets for the Not So Scary Mickey Mouse Halloween Party. I don't know who is more excited my kids or me. I can't wait to experience the excitement the Disney Park has to offer, since my neice and 2 nephews have not gone yet. Something about Disney just brings back the kid in me. You can say I am a Disney Fanatic!

July 4th ...Freedom, Family, Fireworks and Fun

The fourth of July is a special time to honor our independence! It is a time to remember that our freedom is not free! Many men and women have sacrificed to allow us the land we call home...America! Thanks to all our military men and women! And a special thanks to "our" men that served: Grandpa Carson, Uncle Tyrone (died in Vietnam), Dad, Grandaddy Great, Uncle Butch, Uncle Ken and my dear husband.

This weekend we celebrated with America by getting together as family to enjoy the freedoms our military have given us.

Challenging Myself

In the month of July, I am challeninging myself to complete a two page layout every other day. So by the end of July, I should have 15 layouts complete. For the people that know me well, this is quite a challenge. So here is my first layout...yes it is not fancy; however I have pictures on a page.

So maybe you will take the challenge as well...to catch up on all those pictures in boxes!

A few minutes to myself

Last night after taking a walk with the kids, I told my DH that I was headed to our deck to have a little R & R. I took my book and a cool drink out to enjoy the scenary from our deck. For those that don't know, our backyard is full of trees and back ups to the woods. It was a cool brisk evening. I enjoyed reading and listening to mother nature wind down for the night.

After enjoying about 30 minutes of R & R, our middle child (Shannon) found me. With a house full of kids my minutes are few; however those precious moments of time to myself were wonderful!

Reflecting on Mary

Before becoming Catholic, I always wondered why Mary was "honored" in the faith. After reading The Way of Mary - Following Her Footsteps Toward God by Mary Ford-Grabowsky, I understood more.

This book reflects on the events of Mary's life (from scripture) from the her saying "thy will be done" when asked to give birth out of wedlock, to giving birth in a stable, to the miracle at the wedding in Cana, and finally the death of her "baby boy". I have heard these scriptures, but never reflected on what Mary went through. This book actually makes you reflect, write and create wonderful works to get to know Mary better.

Mary is the mother of our Lord and mother to all people (according to Jesus' final words at the cross). So today, I honor our blessed Mother. Whom we can ask to interceded on our behalf for wisdom, guidance and strength.

Life is so Fragile

Yesterday, Grams went into the hospital to freeze a couple of spots on her liver. This was suppose to be a minor procedure with an overnight stay; however it looks like it will be a few more days to recover in the hospital.

We sometimes take our health for granted. Today, I am realizing more than ever that life is fragile. We need to treasure the moments together with family and friends.

So today, I am hugging my family a little more.

Sounds of Summer

This afternoon, I walked up the hill by myself to get the mail. While walking, I quickly shut my eyes and listened. I heard sounds of birds chirping, dogs barking, lawn mowers going, ice cream truck dinging, kids playing and air conditioners humming. What a perfect day! I am so blessed to be able to hear these wonderful sounds of summer!

TIme Spent with Cousins...Priceless!

Last week, we went to ride Buddy (PaPa's horse) with Lexi and Dustin. Grant and Dustin also enjoyed riding the four wheeler and motorcycle.

This past Friday, Shannon went with Becca to Club Libby Lu and got "made-up". Then had a slumber party at Becca's. Grant spent the evening with Connor, Grandpa and Daddy at the Royals Baseball Game, with a sleepover at Grandpa's.

Saturday evening we had our crus'in cousins party at our house. We first went swimming and then came home for an octo-dog dinner (hot dog, with mac-n-cheese and gold fish). Delicious! After dinner, each of the cousin's made his/her own mini scrapbook of our last cruise. As you can tell by the pictures we have a lot of creative talent!

These treasured moments are PRICELESS!

Treasures to Create

My sister, Sheila, has been on a creative "world wind". She has changed her style to create decor from "old finds". I love her new look and inspirative style. This weekend I received an unexpected gift from her...these beautiful treasures from her "stash".

Thanks sis! I can't wait to try my hand at creating "treasures". I'll keep you posted.

Late Night Scrapbookers

Last night, Shelby and I got up to have some time together (alone) in the scrapbook room. I had such a wonderful time being with her and helping her when she needed. Just a year ago, I did most of the cutting and designing. However now, she can complete a beautiful project without much of my time. Way to go my creative girl!

So last night I had the opportunity to craft myself and I had a "brain freeze". No creative juices were flowing. What a disappointment!

However, just spending quality time alone with Shelby was worth every minute!

In Memory of Grandaddy Great

Grandaddy -

When I look at the picture of the two of us together I see us... a special, a treasured relationship that few understood. One of teasing, sticking out our tongues at each other, one of laughter and love. However what I also see is your strong loving hands. Your hands have held many things...a shovel for digging a basement so you could hold grandma's hands, a military gun, your daughter's hands, your mechanic tools, your granddaughter's hands, a tractors wheel and all 7 of your "greats" grandkids hands. I felt so loved and safe in your hands.
***
This picture was taken at Grandaddy Great's pool. It is also the last picture of have of him before he passed away.
The day was so hot, but he insisted that he go and watch his "greats" play in the pool. He was always like that...determined to be a part of our lives. He truly loved his grandkids and greats!
So today, Grandaddy know you are still in my heart, loved and missed dearly. **

Happy Birthday, Great!

Yesterday morning I woke up with a thought of I am missing something today. June 10th... what could it be? I went to my calendar and nothing of great importance was on it. Then out of the blue I remembered it was my Grandaddy's birthday (he would have been 88).

For the past 7 years (since I had become a stay-at-home mom), I would take the kids over to my Grandaddy's with either homemade cookies or brownies to celebrate his birthday. This is the first year, that we did not celebrate with him. However I had a piece of cherry pie today in his honor. Kind of ironic that it was cherry pie, because that is one of the nicknames he gave me.

Crop until you Drop!

Well the night finally came...our bi-annual page SWAP. I had been working on my 2 page Easter Hunt layout for the past 3 months. Now it was time to share our creations with 11 other ladies.

The art work that these amazing ladies came up with was truly inspiring. I actually got 6 of the pages completed with pictures on it. Now it is time to journal.

What a fun time sharing ideas, enjoying our mutual love for creating memories, catching up on everyone's lives and enjoying good food. The time went to fast and the chimes rang midnight and we were still scrapbooking. Thanks ladies for a wonderful night!

True Friendship

Three years ago, the Rameriz family became our little buddy family at school. Since that date, we have become true friends. She has touch my life, by her sweet, caring and giving personality; by her gift of cooking my favorite food (Mexican), by her laughter, by her strong and unwavering faith, by her love of her children and by her angelic smile.

Today, I was able to help out a friend in need. It gave me such a warm feeling to help out. Mirella is a full time mom...24/7. She needed the time and I am glad I could help! Thanks Mirella for letting me enjoy your children while you took some much needed time for yourself.

A True Inspiration

There are so people that come in and out of our lives. Some you forget and others that you will always remember because of the positive impact they had on your life. This is true of our priest, Father Matt. He is truely an inspiration and caring individual. He became a teacher and then found is calling as a priest, so he has been gifted with inspiring children as well as adults. We have been blessed to have him for a few year at our parish; however he will be leaving for a teaching ministry at a catholic school.

We had him over for dinner to celebrate is time at our parish and to wish him well at his new ministry. We will miss you; however you will always be in our prayers. Hopefully one day you will grace the doors of our parish once more as our head priest.

Scrapbooking...a day with my twin!

Saturday, Sheila and I carved a few hours to scrapbook together. This is quite remarkable as we are always running here and there with kids, school and work. It was so much fun to relax, catch up and just enjoy creating together.

Thanks sis for coming down (even if we had the kids). It was great fun!

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Yeah! The sounds of the ice cream truck! What fun!

Don't you remember the days when you were outside playing and the ice cream truck would come down the street? What fun it was to enjoy a cool treat on a hot summer day! The life of a child. I love these time when I can relive my childhood memories of fun with my children.

Yum! Yum! Enjoy the delicious moments of summer!

Come Here Ginger and Sit

This weekend we had the opportunity to care for MiMi's new dog Ginger. Ginger is a 4 to 6 month old chocolate lab, with the most adorable face and disposition. The kids fell in love with her, especially Shannon. Shannon played with her, walked her, petted her and even picked up "presents" left on our walks.

Ginger was very patient and loved the attention. However, one evening at 4:30 am I heard her howling in the garage. So, I went down to give her a little needed love and attention. My observation with Ginger is that pet ownership is just like having a new baby in the house. They are adorable, fun and require a lot of work. Maybe one day soon, we can get a dog of our own.

Swimming Pool Opens!

Sunday, our community pool opened and the kids wanted to go. After church, we grapped a quick bit to eat and headed to the pool.

The kids enjoyed splashing around, while MiMi, Mom and Dad enjoyed watching from the side of the pool because the water was so COLD. Watching our three come out with purple lips, reminded me of the times when I was a kid and would get in the cold water. At that time it did not matter if it was cold, fun was the name of the game then. Now in my "older" age, I want a nice warm water before I venture in, which might not be until July before it get to my liking.

Thank you Shannon, Shelby and Grant from bringing back those wonderful memories of my childhood. I love you!

A Party At Our House

We always look for ways to enjoy the little moments. Last night was the season finale of American Idol (a show which our whole family enjoys). Who was to win? David or David? We wanted David Cooke. Of course part of the fun of this show is determining who will stay and who will go.

We prepared a "fun" meal (aka "fun" very little nutrion) of buffalo chicken pizza, mozerella sticks, cheese bits and taquitos. We sit down to enjoy great food and great music. Just before 9 pm, American Idol announced the winner....David Cooke! We won! We got it right this year! Can't wait for next season!

A Day for Me

Yesterday, I enjoyed a day for me. Yes, you heard me correctly...I spent a day doing what I wanted to do while the kids were at school. These days come few and far between but it was one I was needing.

I went over to my BFF's (Stephanie) house to scrapbook. I could have worked on a scrapbook exchange that is due on June 6, but I decided to do some scrapbooking for me. I finished up one layout and completed another which I need to find pictures for. The dear Lord gave us a beautiful day of warm weather, good food and great company. The lunch on her deck just completed this day of fun!

This day of rest was just what the "doctor" ordered!

Life as a Mother

My last week was over flowing with things to do!

It started Monday, with Shannon's Brownie ceremony which I prepared for and then made cupcakes for Grant to take to school on Tuesday for his birthday. Then Tuesday came with getting treats to class for Grant, serving lunch, then attending Shelby's middle school musical (which they did a fabulous job!). Wednesday I spent all day making Grant's birthday party favors which included personalized carpentar aprons and contruction hats. I also finalized the shopping for Shannon's first communion. Thursday I worked at school and then went out with my wonderful husband of 15 years to dinner. Friday, we meet friends at a gymnastic gym to let the kids play. Afterward the work began, preparing for Grant's construction party and Shannon's first communion. I was up until mid night making the home-made construction cone pinata, card board house, preparing for the games and wrapping all the gifts. Saturday, brought Grant's party at 11 am then Mass at 4:30 and finally Shannon's first communion party at 6:30!

Sunday, my loving husband woke up early and made a trip to Panera Bread to treat me to breakfast in bed. I enjoyed my delicious spinach ardichoke souffle and chocolate pastery. The kids gave me a special card which had their voices on it. Then it was off to mass to see my BFF daughter take her first communion. After mass, I went home to collect my family and had a nice surprise...my whole house was cleaned! Yeah! Off to my BFF's daughter's party and then finally over to Grams and PaPa's house for Mother's Day dinner.

As you can see, my life is always an adventure! One that I would not change for the world.

Tornado Touch Down

A tornado touch down within 20 blocks of our home!

Thank heavens we had our bedroom window opened, because around 2 am we heard the most horrible sound of wind roaring. We quickly shut the window and turned on the weather to see what was going on. We were in middle of a storm. The weatherman said it was "hurricane" speed winds of 70 to 80 mphs. We heard limbs breaking and hail on the house. By 3 am things had calmed down; however from our windows we could tell we had tree limb damage in the back.

We have been planning to have a couple of dead trees removed from our backyard. The winds topped those trees for us. We have some work to be done, but we feel blessed because the limbs landed on the ground and not in our house.

For those that were less fortunate, please know our prayers are with you.

Crowning Mary

May 1st is Crowning Mary at church. The students all brought flowers to "crown" Mary and remember her love and devotion to God. I was so excited to help in Grant's Pre-K class with this special ceremony.
It was "angelic" seeing the children put flowers around Mary.

Lord, thank you for all your beauty!

Mom's Work is Never Done

Today, I can take a deep breath and relax (alittle). These past couple weeks have been hectic with getting Shelby to play practice, buying dresses and shoes for first communion, getting invitations out to Shannon's first communion and Grant's 5th birthday, planning a family birthday party with Grams and PaPa, planning a trip to Libby Lu for 20 Brownie Scouts, ordering badges for Brownies, and the list went on.

I know that later this week I will be at it again, as I have to get ready for Shannon's Brownie Awards Ceremony, Grant's Birthday, Shelby's play, Gran'ts Kindergarten Shadow day, our Anniversary and Shannon's first communion celebration.

But today I will enjoy my day of relaxation!

Going to Town Days

What an exciting day! Grant and I spent the day at school with Shannon at Going To Town Days. Each student is asked to come up with a product to sell and then the students of the school are given "play money" to spend. Shannon and her friend created "stir it up" spoons that are covered with chocolate and m&m's. Put the "stir it up" spoons in a cup of hot chocolate or coffee for a delicious treat!

Congratulations my baby girl on your business!

Spring Is Finally Here!

Today, my tulips finally bloomed! They are gorgeous! The couple blooms I have left that is, since an animals has decided to eat of the blooms of the others. I so enjoy our new house and the our woods in the back; however I don't enjoy the wild life feasting on my flowers and newly grown grass (that I spent hours on last fall to plant and water).

Thank you God for all the beauty around us!

Creeking!

Well, the rain held off and Grant's pre-k class was able to go creeking. We had fun wading in the stream to find all kinds of creepy and crawlies. The amazing thing is that in his class they have 14 boys and 4 girls. Yes, it is true! So as you can imagine it was a boy outting.

We had a wonderful showing of parent volunteers, which happened to be all mom's. Usually there is a couple of dad's, but not today. So the mom's "stepped up to the plate" and rolled up their pants legs and headed in to the cold waters to find all kinds of wild life in the stream, under rock no less. Yes, I was one of the many mom's, that braved the cold waters and would reach in to turn over rocks to find these wonderful creatures. It is amazing what us "mom's" will do for our kids.

Royals Game Brrr!

We went to watch the Royals win yesterday against the Minnesota Twins. Our plans were to tail gate before the game (like we did last year). However with snow flurries in the air at 8 am, we decided to go to Mom & Dad's to "tail gate" in warmth.

We got to the stadium and it was 39 degrees. Brr! We were bundled up and yes we had hot chocolate to keep us warm. All-in-all we had a fantastic time!

Where is the warm weather?

Way to go KU!

KU is heading to the finals!

We watched the KU game last night with family. If there is a reason to celebrate our family can find it. Mom and Dad, Sheila, Ken, Janna and Connor, Chuck, Shawna, Rebecca and Carson all came over for a bar-b-que and to watch KU play UNC. What a game and what a wonderful night spent with family!

I want you, but I don't

It is true! Shelby wants me, but only at a distance.

Today, I went on the 6th grade field trip to Science City. As soon as I arrived at school, I was told that the parents were riding in the front of the bus together. In other words, she was not going to sit by me. I am truly blessed that she still wants me as many of the kids don't even want their parents around. At least she wants us in "her terms".

Thanks for letting me go, Shelby. I love you!

Dental Surgery

Today was the day I had been waiting for and dreading all at the same time. Grant was to have dental surgery the first of February; however had to reschedule because he had bronchitis. So 7 weeks later, today was the day.

We had to wake up and give him a breathing treatment, since he had a slight cold and the doctor needed is lungs clear. He was so brave! Yes there were a few tears driving to the hospital; however once we got there things were better. The lounge had a play area and Daddy occuppied him while I completed paper work.

The nurse called us back and Grant was greeted with a basket full of zoo animals. He then was assigned to a bed in the zoo room and the nurse let him watch TV while we signed forms and talked to the doctors. While this was going on 3 other boys were in for surgery, so it seemed to comfort Grant that he was not the only one. Then when it was time for him to go, he got his license to drive the toy jeep back to the surgical room.

We waited for an hour and a half before we were allowed to go back to see him. As soon as I walked back, I could hear him crying. My heart just broke! It is one thing for yourself to be in pain; however it is completely different when your child is.

After a short time, we were able to take him home. Grant was crying...his teeth and throat hurt. By noon, he was up and feeling pretty good.

He now as 5 silver crowns and 3 white fills in his little mouth. I sincerely hope that when is new teeth come in, they are stronger and healthier.

Thank you God for watching over Grant, for helping the doctors and nurses and for giving me the strength to indure this.

Seeing Green!

This St. Paddy's Day, we celebrated in style! I decorated the table in green and prepared an all green dinner. We had spinach wrapped burritos, green rice (which was a flop), verde salsa with chips, kiwi and a green frosted brownies. It was so fun to celebrate the "Irish"!

March Madness

It has been "madness" at our house...March Madness as I like to say. Our girls are born 4 year and 6 days apart. It was much easier when they were smaller. Now how ever, it was back to back weekends of partying with slumber parties.

Shelby celebrated at T-Rex and Shannon had her very own spa party with make your own pizzas. It was so much fun, but so exhausting! I am still trying to "wind down" from all the excitement, however not this year as Easter falls the week after Shannon's birthday. As I said it is March Madness!

Computer Down!

We have been trouble shooting our computer for over two weeks now! It will not even power up! My wonderful husband as been graciously bringing home his work laptop so I can check e-mails. However we are unable to print for it. You don't know what you have until it is broken! I continue to wait and hope that this part being sent next week will be the answer to our problem. Life without a computer is challenging!

Love is in the Air!

Valentine's Day is a special day at our house celebrated with sparkling cider, candle light, small gifts made/purchased with love, homecooked meal and Dad's favorite peanut butter pie drizzled with chocolate syrup.

This year we ended up spending the majority of the evening at school with student/teacher conferences, so the meal was made by Schwan's (however the pie was made by Mom). By the time we got home to eat the kids were wiped out, tempers were raw and it was late! So much for love being in the air!

After a good night sleep all is well and there now is "love in the air" at our house!

First Communion in the "Air"

In a few short months, Shannon will be receiving her first communion. Mom has many things to do before then...find that perfect dress pattern, purchase the material, have Grammy sew it, get pictures taken, have Shannon study and prepare for her first communion, meet with the priest, and plan a celebration!
It is hard to believe that just a few short years ago, Shelby had her first communion. Now we are preparing for Shannon's. I know that I will "blink" and it will be Grant's turn.

Sometimes Life Throws You A Curve Ball

That is how I feel today. Today was a much dredded day at my house...Grant was to have dental surgery done to correct his 8 cavities. Yes you heard me right 8 cavities. I have been on pins and needles for a month now waiting for this day. Yesterday, we took him to get his physical done and he has bronchitius, which means no surgery. So I guess I have to wait longer and hope that his one cavity does not give him problems until our next scheduled appointment.

Note to me: never mention that he has not been sick a week before. Because it will come true!

Dreaming of Sandy Beaches

Yes, it is true! My heart is on this sandy beach at Castaway Cay. I decided that I had to put my favorite picture back on my blog. When I look at this picture I can see my kids and neices/nephews playing on the beach, my mom and dad relaxing on lounge chairs together and can hear the ocean waves hit the beach. This is paradise! In only a few short months we will be heading back to this wonderful place with my family! Until then I can only DREAM!

Snow Day

Well, the ground hog saw his shadow...6 more weeks of winter. If mother nature would not tease us with 60 degree weather one day and then 2 days later a snow storm which cancels school, it would be easier to take winter. However I believe that Mother Nature enjoys teasing us with is what to come...warmer days.

For now, I have been shoveling our drive and side walks. It is beautiful even though I am ready for spring.

Where did the warm weather go?

Well, we are back in the deep freeze with the weather. Monday, we enjoyed mid temperatures of 60 degree. Even on Tuesday morning when I went out it was 54 degrees; however only a few hours later it was 16 degrees. The wind was blowing a snow storm in.

They say we have global warm. I am not seeing this as this winter as been one of the coldest and snowest for a number of years. It just goes to show you God is control.

Next week is Ground Hogs Day. Will he see is shadow or not? I can only hope he does not see his shadow, so we can finally get out of the deep freeze. However I bet we will have that 6 weeks of winter.

Celebrate Life

This weekend was especially emotional for me. On Sunday, I went to a visitation of a family friend. Kelsey was only 18 years old, a senior in high school and so full of life. She lovingly helped my girls with swimming lessons each summer. Last Wednesday night in the snow storm, Kelsey lost control of our car, hit a truck and God decided to take her home. When I hugged her mom, her words to me was to tell your kids every day you love them and hug them tight. Her words touched my heart. No matter what my kids will experience a big hug and "I love you" daily.

On Monday, Sheila and I met our friend Leneve for dinner. Leneve has been fighting cancer off and on for years. It has come back and she is fight for her life again. We had such a wonderful time catching up and laughing about the good times. Leneve you are a true inspiration to me. You have such a strong faith and continue to celebrate life even when you are hurting so.

We don't know when God will call us home. After reflecting on these last couple of days, I realize now more than ever to tell your family and friends you love them daily, to trust in God and to celebrate the life you are given.

What Do You Mean We Have School!

Overnight, God blessed us with a blanket of snow! As you know I enjoy snow, if I don't have to get out in it!

At 5:30 am, I sit in front of my computer watching as each of the school districts around us slowly decided to cancel school. By 6:15 am, I am still amazed that all the schools have closed and ours is still on the list. At 6:30 am, the kids need to get up, as Shelby has safety patrol. Their response to having to get up was...what do you mean we have school?!

You have to love our school district. No matter the weather, you can almost bet we WILL have school.

Kids Back at School

The kids are heading back to school. I am having missed emotions. I so enjoy having them at home with no need to get to bed on time, no need to rush from one activity to the next and no need to work on home work. However, I am craving a little peace and quiet, especially from the constant squabbling of the kids.

Here's to the kids going back!

My new toy!

Well, it is official! I received my new Canon camera. I am so excited that I can finally take action shoots. I am still in the "infant" stage of learning my new toy; however I know I can always count on my sisters and mother to help as they also have Canon cameras. As soon as I get it figured out I will post my new pictures (however don't hold your breath as it will take me a while to read it).

Ringing in the New Year

It is hard to believe that yet another year has flown by and I am making my New Year's Resolution. In years past I had my goals on paper; however this year has come and gone and I have failed to write them down. I have thought of them and it continues to be a broken record with eating and exercising top on the list. So this year, I start a new. My New Years Resolution is to put my faith, family and friends on top of the list. Yes I want to shed a few Christmas pounds and tone up; however life is about the people around you and I am blessed to have a wonderful family, fantastic friends and a faith family that helps me to become what God has intented.
Happy New Year! I will keep you up to date on my progress.
